Gmail Known Issues
We're always working to resolve problems that come up in Gmail. If your problem is listed below, we're aware of the issue and are working to fix it as soon as possible. To see more information on an issue, just click View Details & Report. Clicking the 'Report it' button will save you the time of sending us an email, but it will ensure that we're notified about your issue.
Some users have experienced their mail loading in a small rectangle at the top, left corner of their screens. As a workaround, we suggest that Firefox users disable the Megaupload extension and that Internet Explorer users try signing in from Firefox, available for free download.
If you get stuck on 'Loading...,' we suggest first trying our troubleshooting steps. You should be able to use the 'older version' of Gmail or the basic HTML view while we work to resolve the issue.
Click yes when you're asked to confirm if you want to add the information to the registry.
Restart the Notifier.
If you decide you no longer want to use the https setting, you'll need to install the other file included in the download to reset the Notifier. Use the same method as above, except with 'notifier_https_undo.reg.'
Some Firefox users have reported seeing the error, 'You have been signed out of Gmail. You must sign back in to reenable chat.' Please clear your cache to resolve the issue.
If you see names in your Chat list or messages displayed as 'undefined,' or if you see 'undefined' between the 'Save' and 'Discard' buttons when composing a message, please upgrade your Better Gmail Firefox extension to Better Gmail 2. If you have Greasemonkey enabled in your browser, please disable the 'Gmail Conversation Preview' script to resolve the issue.
If you've updated your picture in the 'General' tab of your Gmail settings, but when hovering over your name in your Chat list, you still see the old picture, check to make sure you haven't set a picture for yourself in your Contacts list. Click 'Contacts' on the left side of the page and search for your Gmail address. Select the entry for your address and check the picture on the right side of the page.
Some users report that the Firefox extension HTML Validator causes slowness or crashing in their Gmail accounts. We suggest disabling this extension while we work to resolve the issue.
Please try logging in to your account through our secured interface, available via https://mail.google.com. Be sure to use this exact URL, with no characters after '.com.' If this resolves the issue, we suggest that you enable the 'Always use HTTPS' setting in your account.
If you continue to experience difficulties, please access your mail from the older version of Gmail while we work to resolve the issue.
Users report that thumbnails will stop displaying and be replaced by an icon. The problem often resolves itself and then reappears. In the meantime, clicking the 'View' or 'Download' links will enable you to see the images.
In your Tab Mix Plus settings, select Prevent blank tabs when downloading files. If this doesn't resolve the issue, we suggest disabling the extension.
For all non-Firefox 3 users: Please try logging in to your account through our secured interface, available via https://mail.google.com. Be sure to use this exact URL, with no characters after '.com.' If this resolves the issue, we suggest that you enable the 'Always use HTTPS' setting in your account.
For Firefox 3 users: Please try accessing your mail from the older version of Gmail https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1&ov=1 while we work to resolve the issue. If this doesn't resolve the issue, please try another browser such as Google Chrome.
Users behind network proxies might encounter 'Attachment failed' and other errors when using the advanced attachment features, especially in Firefox 3. Change your attachment settings by selecting 'Basic attachment features' in the General tab of the Settings page.
We've aware of an issue where users are receiving a 'too many simultaneous connections' message when using IMAP. We are currently looking into this issue.
In the meantime, please ensure you've closed/signed out of any mail clients you are not actively using.
To resolve this issue, upgrade to Mac OS 10.6.2. For information regarding this upgrade, including how to check for the update, visit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874.
IMAP clients aren't always designed to handle the huge amount of mail that users store in Gmail. If you have thousands of messages in your labels, we recommend doing some housework to clean up your labels in the web interface. Remember, the web interface shows counts of threads, not messages.
Message headers contain technical information necessary for the successful delivery of messages between email servers. Gmail's IMAP implementation re-encodes the information stored in message headers, but non-ASCII characters may become garbled. For example, this can affect the 'To:' line in an email message if a name is written in a language that uses non-Latin characters. Several issues can result from corrupt message headers, including delivery problems.
The Gmail Team is working to resolve this issue.
