Avoiding scams

  • Be careful of unsolicited messages.
The Gmail Team will never ask for your password or other sensitive information. Be cautious of any message that asks for your personal information or that refer you to a webpage asking for personal information. If you receive a suspicious message, especially from a source claiming to be Google or Gmail, do not provide the information requested.
  • Look for Gmail's phishing warning.
Gmail flags messages that might be phishing - look for the red warning message along the top of suspicious emails.

  • Check the message headers.
  • Make sure the URL is legitimate.
  • Report suspicious messages to Google.
